Exhibition showcases the talent of highly regarded artist tutors

This April, the St Ives School of Painting marks its 80th year, and celebrations begin with two consecutive exhibitions at St Ives’ Penwith Gallery, firstly by students of the school, and then by its professional artist tutors including Krowji-based artists Kerry Harding and Amy Albright.

The second exhibition, from 23rd March to 6th April, showcases the talent of the School’s highly regarded artist tutors, and includes work by Kerry Harding, Amy Albright and others. Over the duration of the show a series of scheduled events includes live painting demonstrations, talks and performances.

“Kerry Harding’s paintings are her own particular view of nature with paint remaining the hero.  By years of exploring more experimental uses of this medium Kerry has a distinctive vocabulary of marks and surfaces that successfully interpret the textures and atmospheres of the Cornish landscape. An experienced painter and skilled tutor, Kerry studied fine art at The Ruskin School, Oxford University in 1991 followed by an MA in fine art at Falmouth and has been teaching at St Ives School of Painting since early 2014.”

“Amy Albright graduated from Falmouth with a BA Hons in fine art in 2007, winning the prestigious Midas Award a year later. She exhibits widely and currently paints from her studio at Krowji. Her paintings allow glimpses into a world where minute fragments and traces emerge out of deep, luminous, translucent layers of colour. She captures elements of chance when painting, with an intuitive response to previous painterly marks; layering, pouring, imprinting, accentuating, methods that seem as organic as the subject itself.”
