Krowji’s Top Tips for planning your visit to Open Studios Cornwall 2019

If you’ve never visited studios during Open Studios Cornwall before here are Krowjis’ top tips to remember when planning your visit and packing your bag for the day!

Pick Up a Catalogue

The Open Studios Catalogue is your guide to the event, it contains a full listing of all of the studios taking part and includes their open days and times along with details about parking and facilities. Make sure you check the studio you are planning on visiting is open on the day you set-off, this is indicated in the catalogues – when the dates are shown in a paler colour it means the artists is not exhibiting on that date. The full listings are also available on the Open Studios Cornwall website if you prefer to go paper-free!

Pack a Map or a Sat Nav!

Many of the studios are hidden away so we’d recommend taking a trusty map or sat nav for any moments where you lose your bearings. You can also bookmark the Open Studios Cornwall website on your mobile to help navigate the studios with Google maps. Krowji is located just off the A3047 by-pass, just past the turning for Redruth School but you’d be surprised how many people miss the turning…

Ask Questions

The contact details for all of the artists taking part are in the catalogue and on the Open Studios Cornwall website, so if you’ve got any questions about a particular artwork or your visit, you can get in touch with them before you set off.

Bring Cash

Although lots of the artists and makers accept card payments not all of them do (sometimes the wi-fi doesn’t stretch) so remember to bring cash just in case you find a piece of work you fall in love with and can’t bear to leave behind!

Keep in Touch

Pick up the artist’s business card for future contact

Stop off for Refreshments

Visiting the studios can be thirsty work so make sure you plan some cafe stops along the way, if you’re visiting Krowji in Redruth there will be pop-up street food on offer as well as plenty of coffee and cake. Lots of the artists taking part elsewhere will be able to recommend lovely lunches and perfect pit-stops near to their studios too. All that studio viewing can be thirsty work so don’t forget your refillable bottle to stay hydrated!

Leave plenty of time

Some of the studios taking part are off-the-beaten-track and if you’re visiting us at Krowji there are 50 studios to get around – so make sure you leave plenty of time, nobody likes having to see art in a rush!

Spread the Word

Don’t forget to complete a visitor feedback form, tell your friends and share your photos on social media #openstudioscornwall
