This series of artist books was created by Vicki with alternative materials such as porcelain, lead, wood and fabric, and influenced by the stories of women who travelled as part of the Cornish Diaspora to Mexico during the mid-1850s.
Vicki is also the creator of the ‘Palimpsest Project’ which seeks to record the lost and forgotten stories of women in fabric, paper and stitch, aided by her research carried out using the Kresen Kernow archive in Redruth (with whom she has been collaborating to run a series of lockdown projects as part of the #ArmchairARTchive campaign).
Elizabeth Carne, the Gorsedh Kernow Grand Bard, said ‘we are delighted that this year has seen a record number of nominations and submissions, representing the dynamism and diversity of Cornish creativity, culture and community work.’ Vicki joins the ranks of those across the region being recognised and honoured by Gorsedh Kernow for outstanding work in sustaining the Celtic spirit of Cornwall in their communities.
Keslowena Vicki, a worthy winner!
