Lesley Plumridge

I love old things, books, bones, maps, underwater wrecks, abandoned places, objects with the patina of age, deteriorated and weathered by nature, decaying and damaged, objects that show the life they have lived with visible mark of any mending, the beauty found in the old and misshapen; the imperfect.  Somehow they have more character, have stories to tell and that somehow these imperfections become their defining beauty.

I love the textures you find in them and in my work recreates them using oils and mixed media. I am very process led and I love seeking and exploring the textures in the paint, how I can alter it and mix it with different mediums to create new and unpredictable effects.  Building up layers, rubbing, staining, scratching into, printing onto and then stripping it back to find the hidden texture within.  To this I may also add college or stencils to create a finished piece.

I studied Textiles Design at Falmouth University and undertook the Porthmeor Programme at St Ives School of Painting.
