Adrian Holmes

I am a multi disciplinary artist whose primary focus is woodblock printing. I fell in love with the art of printing when living in Japan and began to study this beautiful craft and its various techniques.

I’m fascinated by its versatility, openness and process. It’s a medium which allows for so many possibilities and a medium which I find helps me to convey my thoughts, ideas, and feelings towards life, nature and the world around us.

Simplicity is what I focus on when I make a print, the surface of the printed image has always attracted me an only what I feel necessary is retained on the paper, nothing more, and nothing less. I like the unified surface and physical appearance that the printmaking process can convey. The basic print on paper remains the core of my practice even as I mix printmaking with both installation, painting and drawing the traditional method keeps me returning again and again. As I continue to work in the medium of print, mastering new processes, teaching students, and working with other artists as a printer, my approach is still developing and I am still exploring.
